"A long backstory on us as owners before I talk about our puppy, Mr. Green who is now named Angus, from Sunrise Harbor Retrievers first litter.
I have a lot of experience with dogs. I grew up with there being 15-32 dogs of all shapes and sizes on my horse trainers farm, I was exposed to every breed, combination of breeds imaginable, and some that aren’t even fathomable at horse shows across the country. I have logged plenty of hours at a no kill shelter, and I have never been without a family dog or my own dog my entire life. I fell in love with the Retriever Personality long before I ever owned one and it also has nothing to do with the popularity. Our family knew exactly what personality and health traits we wanted and what type of dog that works well with our lives and a Golden fit our lifestyle.
As I said, we are not inexperienced owners that just wanted a fluffy cute puppy on a whim. Originally we were working with another breeder and were willing to wait for a puppy for a long time in order to get the perfect dog for us. Unfortunately, there were issues with the litter we had put a deposit down on, but being a reputable breeder she had other options available to us. Which is how we stumbled upon Sunrise Harbor, and it ended up being the best possible outcome for us. We ended up with a truly amazing dog and I am very grateful.
Mr. Green or Angus has been the easiest dog we have ever had. I am amazed at every new situation he truly just takes it in stride since the first day we brought him home and adapts with ease to anything that we have done so far. Angus has the best balance of being smart, sweet, mellow and snuggly, playful, and downright absolutely goofy. He has picked up any training easily and quickly. Truly my only complaint is that at 8 months old he can literally fill a king size bed somehow and he still thinks 5am is play time sometimes.
Juliana has been extremely professional and easy to work with. She has been very patient with my updates, texts and pictures of how Angus is doing. The time, effort, and groundwork they put in with their puppies from the beginning shows because the puppies are top quality. Everyone who has met Angus falls in love with him and is amazed that he still “just” a puppy. I cannot wait to spend a lifetime of being amazed by this wonderful and beautiful dog."

Several months after losing our cocker spaniel we had originally rescued and had for over 10 years while our kids were growing up, we made the decision to get a new dog and eventually agreed we were going to get a pure bread golden retriever. We had seen a few English Creams over the last few years and settled in on that breed. We live in Texas and I tried to find a breeder locally, but there weren't many that had available puppies, but did eventually find one and put in a deposit. Unfortunately, the female didn't get pregnant so we were back to square one.
I continued looking for a breeder, but really just basically somehow stumbled across Sunrise Harbor as they were not local to us, but were up in Washington only a few minutes from where I grew up on a small island that I still visit to see friends. And I thought wouldn't it be really neat to get a puppy from where I was from. So I contacted them and they did have a litter coming up and I asked all the usual questions and could tell this was exactly what I had been looking for ... small operation, really concerned about taking good care of the pups, and in it because they loved the dogs.
So fast forward a few months and we brought home Lainey (after Elaine from Seinfeld) and she has been just a joy - beautiful dog, always gentle, super smart, talks to us when she feels like it, etc., etc. Now she kind of ended up being a Covid dog that paired up with our oldest daughter who was living at home the first year after graduating from college and, honestly, helped her get through Covid as well as they were best buds during Covid and have a special bond. Lainey does have some anxiety about being left alone as we were home with her pretty much 24/7 during Covid so it was hard to leave her by herself. Enter George (also from Seinfeld)!
We heard Sunrise Harbor was having another litter with one of the males we really liked and decided to at least get on the reservation list as we thought another dog for Lainey to pal around with might be good for her. Well it was over from that point and soon we were bringing home George. George is one the coolest dogs we've ever owned - a total goofball, happy go lucky, not a care in the world, prances when he walks, always seems to be smiling, smart, etc., etc. Just an awesome awesome dog! He and Lainey have become great buds ... although you get the feeling George really annoys Lainey at times :).
And then there's a whole sub story to our experience as my sister-in-law who also lives nearby in Texas found out what were doing and also get a puppy both times we did so we had the experience of flying puppies back in the plane both times. Additionally, another close friend to my daughter got a dog from George's litter as well so we have 5 Sunrise Harbor Golden Retrievers here in Austin, TX that get together when we can. All the dogs are unique, but awesome dogs in their own way. We constantly get compliments about how beautiful/handsome they are ... and they are!
Additionally, my wife's best friend up in Washington also got a puppy in between the two puppies we got and I know he is another just awesome awesome dog and that has branched into several of her nearby friends also getting Sunrise Harbor pups as well ... so you can see, once you get one, you won't be disappointed!!!
All that said we obviously highly recommend Sunrise Harbor Golden Retrievers!
