Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What is the process for buying a puppy?
A. The first step is filling out our puppy application. After careful review, we then typically like to meet or talk to families to get to know them a little better. Next, we ask that families fill out our contract, followed by submitting a $500 nonrefundable deposit.
Q. Do you have a waiting list for future litters?
A. Yes. We ask that families fill out our puppy application, and once approved, we place them on our waiting list for future litters. Once our female dog is confirmed pregnant, we require a signed contract and $500 nonrefundable deposit to secure your place on the list.
Q. When can I take my new puppy home?
A. Puppies are available to go to their new homes at 8 weeks old.
Q. How do I choose my puppy?
A. At Sunrise Harbor, we believe that you know your family best, so buyers are allowed to choose themselves. We are of course more than willing to offer advice on which puppy would be the best fit for your home. Puppy choice is also determined in order of deposit and signed contract received, AKA, "first come first serve".
Q. What training do you recommend for my puppy?
A. Golden Retrievers are one of the most trainable breeds, however we recommend that families attend at least basic obedience classes, ideally with other puppies. We have personally used at-home trainers and others offered through large pet-store retailers.
Q. Do you sell breeding/showing rights?
A. We do not sell our puppies with breeding/showing rights. We only sell puppies with limited registration, and we provide families with a copy of their puppy's pedigree upon sale.
Q. When should I spay/neuter my dog?
A. Our contract requires that buyers must spay/neuter their dog between 18-24 months (after puberty), as recommended by the AKC here.
Q. What vaccinations has my puppy already had?
A. Our puppies have been dewormed starting at the age of 2 weeks, then 4, 6, and 8 weeks. When they're 6 weeks old, they receive their first round of shots, and families will be provided a copy of their puppy's vet records upon final sale.
Q. Do you microchip puppies?
A. Yes, they get their microchips at 6 weeks old. Paperwork is given to families along with the puppy's registration upon final sale.
